so last night i played in a blackjack tournament at my local casino. i didn’t even know they were having it and i randomly ran into the boss man of player development who generously invited me to play. it had a $50,000 prize for first place and a lot of big money prizes for players that placed. needless to say i was excited about the chance to play on an unexpected last minute invite.
they gave all the players at the table $50,000 in chips (they had no real money value and were just blackjack tournament chips). they said 3 of the 6 people would advance to the next round. i started slow rolling for the first 7 or 8 hands. they dealt 12 hands to each player. i hit a hard 18 in the first round and drew a 2! i was in second place and went all in on the last hand. i had a 12 against a 4 but too many high cards were out of the deck so i hit and got a 2. i now had 14 against the dealers 4 and i hit again and drew a 4. i stayed on 18. the dealer flopped a 3 underneath for 7 total and drew a 10 for 17. i was all in on the 12th hand and had to it the 14 against the 4 to win. i actually would have one following basic strategy as well but I prefer to make a hand like a dealer would.
so i got 2nd place at my table in the first round and was able to advance to the second round. as we were getting closer to the 9th hand i realized the only guy at the table beating me had too big of a chip lead so i started betting maximum each hand. on the 11th hand i had 17 against the dealers 10. my only option was to double down on the 17 to try to catch the leader so i doubled. i got the 2. things were looking good but then the dealer out drew me to 20. i congratulated him on a nice job an he was very nice and said thank you and shook my hand.
the was the most fun i’ve had playing blackjack in awhile and i’m an avid player.

Are you serious about that? Hitting hard 18!? & Doubling down on hard 17? I understand its a tournament but that’s just difficult and the odds are against you obviously. Glad to hear you had a great time! I also love playing in blackjack tournaments. The level of action and anticipation in tournaments is intense.

yes it really happened. i had to try it was a tournament with big prizes. i learned that once you pass the first round you have to bet much more aggressively in the later rounds.

Nice work getting past the first table. Too bad the 17 double didn’t work out for you. That would have been amazing had you been able to pull it off. A good try though… With blackjack tournaments its go big or go home.

That’s a crazy good game play!
You almost had it, too bad you were 1 point shy.
It’s still amazing. I will be at the edge of my seat watching it.
